The Catalina Grand Prix
December 3,4,5 2010

MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE!

A “Big Historic” thank you to all of those who helped make this seemingly impossible dream come true! At times I feared it was going to be the sequel to the Nightmare Before Christmas but with lots of faith and lots of help from racers, fans and friends we pulled off the Miracle Before Christmas indeed!
After a 52-year wait, the 2010 Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix is now in the history books. I would like to give my sincerest thanks to so many, starting with the City of Avalon and it’s wonderful residents and business people as well as the Santa Catalina Island Company.
     Of course the event couldn’t have happened with out the incredible team from Red Bull, lead by Chad Harp and Michael Ladinig; Pablo Veglia and his Del Amo and Long Beach Motorsports team members; the Catalina Conservancy; the Avalon Chamber of Commerce; the Lions Club; the Avalon Fire Department; the Los Angeles County Fire & Los Angeles County Sheriff Departments; Avalon Mayor Bob Kennedy and staff; Avalon Fire Chief/City Manager Steven Hoefs; Buddy, Erica, Renton & Taryn Minuto; Buddy’s Catalina Island gang of Terry Boyd, David Romo, Kenton, Steve Q, and Boo the Security Man for all the late nights; Bulldozer maestro Josh Butte; my dear friend Glenn “Mr. Microphone” Bator; Jeff Weiner and Alpinestars; Media Mike Garvin; Catalina Search & Rescue;
Mercy Air Helicopter Services; Glenn Bator; Nicky “Super Sales Pro” Flynn; Uncle Ronnie Whitaker and family at Island Rentals; Gregg, Sana & Yoli from the Hotel Metropole and their wonderful staff; The Catalina Express; Seaway Company of Catalina; Connelly Pacific Freight; The Catalina Islander &
Avalon News and The Island MC Club.
We also have to thank all the folks
from the “mainland” for coming over to the
island and making the race happen. Special thanks to AMA District #37; The Big 6 Grand Prix Clubs led by President Kurt Hintz: Prospectors, Hilltoppers, Dirt Diggers, View Finders, Prairie Dogs, Shamrocks, and Vikings; AMA Congressman Dave “Duct Tape” Oakleaf; AMA District #37 President
Jerry Grabow, Sandy and Bill Howell. In addition to the Clubs and District #37, a debt of gratitude goes to the “Wizard” Scott Cox and his Resource Marketing team; The Norman Family and GPR Stabilizers; Quinn Equipment Rentals; Event Photo; Glen Helen Raceway’s Dr. Bud Feldkamp and Lori Bryant and their scoring team; Kubby and Kris “The Gas Men”; “On Any Sunday III” film makers Dana Brown and Todd Huffman and their film crew; all the motorcycle magazine editors, writers, photographers and journalists at large covering our event —we are so grateful for all of the wonderful coverage that continues to pour in! Very special thank you also to our valued event program advertisers and to the Winchester Rebels band for your wonderful performance.
I can’t begin to tell you how special
it was to have had so many motorcycle legends and greats with us including two-time Catalina GP champion Bob Sandgren who graciously served as our honorary Grand Marshall, Dave Ekins, Ed Kretz, Preston Petty, Malcolm Smith, Homer Knapp and Jim O’Neal. And who could forget our Pro feature lineup including Baja 1000 and 2010 Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix champion Kendall Norman, Travis Pastrana, Kurt Caselli, Ricky Johnson, Danny LaPorte, Ronnie Renner, Ryan Dudek, Kurt Nicoll, Joey “The Catalina Express” Hall, the 758 official Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix racers and the army of fans in attendance rooting for us all.
To anyone I may have missed, it was not intentional and I thank you.
Last and most importantly, I want to thank my wonderful family for putting up with me this past year. My dear wife Charla for remaining by my side for 30 years. Son Mike and Kristi(gal pal) working the computer & sales; Matt and Christina (not to mention son Zak for covering home base and watching Buddy and Lulu). Thanks also to the good Lord for watching over all of us during
the amazing weekend, listening to my prayers, making it safe and making it happen.

Happy Holidays to one and all
and a healthy and a prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,
Your Cousin Vinnie
